What Is IPTV?
IPTV stands for Internet Protocol Television: television and video delivered through an IP network rather than only through an aerial, satellite signal or traditional cable system.
IPTV sends video as internet data to a compatible app or device. It can provide scheduled live channels, replay or catch-up programs, and video on demand.
How IPTV Works
A service prepares video on servers and sends it in small data segments. Your player requests those segments, buffers a short portion and displays the picture. Live IPTV follows a schedule, while on-demand IPTV lets the viewer choose when a program begins.
What You Need to Watch IPTV
- A stable internet connection with enough speed for the selected quality.
- A compatible Smart TV, streaming box, phone, tablet or computer.
- An authorised service account or playlist.
- A compatible player supplied by the service or obtained from an official app store.
IPTV Compared with Streaming
IPTV is a form of streaming, but the words are not always interchangeable. “Streaming” covers almost any internet-delivered audio or video. IPTV more specifically describes television-style services delivered with internet protocols, sometimes over a provider-managed network.
Is IPTV Free?
Some authorised broadcasters provide free internet-delivered channels or catch-up programs. Other services require a subscription. Free access does not automatically mean lawful access; content still needs to be supplied with the rights holder’s permission.
